AN card or Permanent Account Number is one of the most crucial and important documents for the citizen of India. It is not only used for tax purposes but also as an identity proof. The card includes a unique ten-digit alphanumeric number and is issued in a form of a laminated card, under the Indian Tax Department. You can apply for the PAN Card in both online and offline methods. Here’s how you can apply online for PAN card.
Steps to apply for PAN Card online:
Step 1: Go to the official website of NSDL i.e. www.onlineservices.nsdl.com.
Step 2: A page will open, under Application Type select New Pan- Indian Citizen (Form 49A). If you are a foreign national then select New PAN -Foreign Citizen(49AA)
Step 3: Select the category of PAN card you need.
Step 4: Fill in your personal details like name, date of birth, mobile number, etc
Step 5: Enter the captcha code and click submit
Step 6: After clicking the submit button, a token number will be generated. You will be required to click on the link to continue with your PAN application
Step 7: A new page will appear and it will show you three options: 1. Submit digitally through e-KYC and e- Sign (paperless) 2. Submit scanned image through e-Sign 3. Forward application documents physically.
Step 8: The most common and preferred is scanned image through e-sign.
Step 9: After selecting the option, enter your details such as Adhaar Card number, parents name, etc. click next.
Step 10: This step requires you to fill in your name, date of birth, address etc. After filling all the details click Next.
Step 11: In the next step, you will be required to enter your area code, AO (assessing officer) type, range code, and AO number. Click next.
Step 12: Select the documents you have submitted as proof of age and residence from the drop-down menu, fill in the required detail and then click submit.
Step 13: Once your documents are uploaded you will be directed to the payment page, you can choose one of the many online payment methods. The fee for PAN card application if Rs. 115.90 excluding additional bank charges, if any. If you have chosen to send the physical documents instead of opting for e-KYC or e-Sign, then you will have to make a payment of Rs. 110.
Step 14: Once you have made the payment, you will be required to go through the Aadhaar authentication process, or submit documents via e-sign or to physically send the documents to NSDL. You will also receive an email acknowledgment from NSDL about your application.
Step 15: Your Pan Card will be couriered to you once the application has been processed. Keep the acknowledgment number with you.
How to link your bank account with PAN offline
Step 1: Visit the branch where you have your bank account.
Step 2: Ask for the PAN form (KYC).
Step 3: Fill the form completely and re-check all the details.
Step 4: Submit the form with the following documents:
- PAN Card updation KYC Form at the branch
- Self-Attested photocopy of your PAN Card
- A letter addressing to Branch Manager, regarding updation of PAN Card
How to check pan link status with a bank account
If you want to see the status of your request, then you can check through the status tab.
Step 1: Click on the ‘status’ option, on the same page.
Step 2: Enter your ‘profile password’. Click on ‘submit’ option.
Step 3: Your PAN status will be displayed on the page.
How to change name on Pan Card
Step 1 – Request for the ‘PAN change/correction’ application form through the NSDL or UTI website. The NSDL website is, https://tin.tin.nsdl.com/pan/correction.html.
Step 2 – Fill up the form and update the field in which you would like to make the change.
Step 3 – Consolidate your ID proof, address proof, and proof of date of birth.
Step 4 – Pay the amount charged for the required changes. This can be done through net banking, debit card, or credit card.
Step 5 – On the hard copy of the application form, paste your photograph and sign it.
Step 6 – Mail the form to the UTI or NSDL address. You should also include your ID proof, address proof, proof of date of birth, and a copy of your PAN Card along with the application form.
The following documents are recognised as proof of identity:
- Affidavit, gazette notification, or newspaper publication that indicates your name change
- School certificates or diplomas
- Bank account statement
- Driver’s license
- Voter ID card
- Marriage certificate
- Credit card
- Divorce papers, in case you are applying for name change after divorce
